Old cigar rolling factories used to employ "lectors", which means "readers". These lectors did exactly that; they read stories to the employees while they worked. Since the workers had to sit and roll cigars for hours on end, giving them an entertaining story to follow day after day made the work much more enjoyable. Montecristo got its name because its employees favorite story was "The Count Of Monte Cristo".
Cigar companies no longer employ lectors, but many play books on tape for the workers.
